Serco awarded contract to manage HMP Ashfield

Serco has been awarded a £200 million, 10 year contract to manage HMP Ashfield in South Gloucestershire following a competitive procurement process.

Serco has been responsible for managing the prison since 2005. The contract will see Serco continue to run the prison for a further 10 years with options for a further two one year extensions.

Commenting on the award Mark Whittaker, Serco Managing Director, Justice and Immigration, said: “We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue to run HMP Ashfield. We have managed the prison since 2005 and we are immensely proud of our track record there and our team that performs a challenging and difficult role with great professionalism and humanity. We believe that our approach and ethos can bring about positive change to the prisoners who are there and we look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on their lives.”

HMP Ashfield is a category C adult male facility near Bristol that holds 400 convicted prisoners serving sentences for sexual offences. Serco’s primary purpose at HMP Ashfield is to treat prisoners convicted of sexual offences in a safe, decent and healthy environment, protect the public and work towards the rehabilitation of prisoners and their reintegration into society. The prison employs around 200 people.
