The move comes as CFMS’s Chief Technology Officer Professor Ian Risk announced he will retire in July 2022.

Prof. Risk’s departure after five years has provided the opportunity for Bristol-based CFMS to review its senior leadership structure to ensure the organisation is best positioned to support the digital transformation of high-value engineering projects across a wide range of sectors that are critical to the UK economy.

The new leadership team sees Sam Paice promoted from Chief Operating Officer to Chief Executive Officer after 10 years with the organisation. In addition, Guy Johns will join CFMS’s board to support in implementing the organisation’s long-term plans, following his promotion to Chief Technologist last year.

Commenting on the changes, Iain Gray, Chairman of CFMS, said: “Ian Risk has made a huge contribution to the growth and success of CFMS in recent years, evolving our cutting-edge technical vision and realising our strategy for growth.

"We are sorry to see him leave us, but after a 40-year career driving innovation in the aerospace sector, we wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement. I am delighted that Sam has agreed to take on the CEO position and look forward to working with her and the team for the next chapter.”

Sam Paice added: “I’m delighted to take up this new role at such an exciting time for CFMS as we embark on our next stage of growth. The organisation has a strong track record in supporting the development and advancement of digital engineering in the aerospace sector, helping to drive efficiencies and shape important industry and global initiatives, including the journey to net-zero.

"More recently, our teams’ experience and expertise in model-based engineering, data science, advanced simulation and computing is helping other sectors, including automotive, infrastructure and defence.”

Ian Risk added: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work at CFMS over the last five years, seeing our efforts reflected in steady company growth and operational resilience throughout the pandemic.

"CFMS has improved its technical capability, broadened engagement across a range of industries and now has the solid business foundations to go from strength to strength. I am privileged to have been part of this process.”
