Rich Rowley (above) has joined the Dorset business after 24 years in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps.
Having retrained while in the military he spent a year working in the cyber industry before joining many other veterans at the Poole-headquartered company.

He will work as a Principal Consultant in the Technical Services team delivering Cyber Essentials, Technical Surveillance Counter-Measures and other areas of cyber security.

The father-of-one, who enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is running a 50km race in the summer, will be based in north Hampshire near his home in Bordon.

He said: “It felt very familiar coming here because there are lots of veterans, from across the army, navy and air force.

“The induction was very in-depth and the level of professionalism was impressive.

“It is a nice culture to be a part of and it’s like a home-from-home really.

“I am looking forward to improving my skills and learning new ones.

“Before I left the military I wondered what to do – and I knew that I wanted a change from being an exercise rehab instructor, which is what I was doing.

“Cyber really interested me so I up-skilled while in the military and did a year with a cyber SME before applying to C3IA Solutions.”

Jim Hawkins from C3IA, which has well over 130 employees, said: “We have recruited a number of staff in recent months because of our increasing workload.

“Rich has the skills and experience and is keen to expand his areas of expertise. He has really impressed us and will fit in well.

“The sector continues to grow with new cyber threats emerging all the time.

“Businesses really need to ensure their cyber defences are effective because fraudsters and other people with criminal intent will think nothing of bringing down a company or organisation.

“Those which have been a victim of cyber crime will understand the importance of protecting their information and that is what we help them do.

“We provide all manner of services to clients including Cyber Essentials - the government backed scheme that gives a basic level of protection.

“Our staff also carry out technical surveillance counter-measures – known as bug sweeping – as well as penetration-testing and vulnerability assessments.”
