Value of aircraft deliveries to UK reaches £17bn

UK trade body ADS today revealed that aircraft deliveries in August took overall figures for the first eight months of 2017 to 644 single aisle aircraft and 241 widebodies, worth up to £17 billion to UK industry.

The month’s completed deliveries meant the global aerospace industry has produced just eight aircraft fewer than in 2016, which set new records for the sector. This was the second highest number of August deliveries on record, behind only last year.

The backlog of commercial aircraft on order books now stands at 13,425 – worth an estimated £210bn to the UK – with orders for widebody aircraft up 24 per cent this year compared to the first eight months of 2016.

ADS Chief Executive Paul Everitt (right) said: “Deliveries of commercial aircraft this year have reached £17bn in value to the UK, showing the strength of the sector and its importance to our economy.

“Continued high global demand for new aircraft means it remains vital to achieve new productivity gains. There can be no room for complacency in maintaining the UK’s hard-won competitiveness.

“Matching 2016’s record pace is a great challenge for the industry and expectations are high for strong performances from UK aerospace companies for the rest of this year.”
