Dr Sam Healy honoured by the Queen

Dr Sam Healy, Group Corporate Responsibility Director, QinetiQ, has been honoured with a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen's Birthday 2017 Honours list for services to Apprenticeships and Graduate Programmes in the Defence Industry.

Dr Healy (above) has been one of the driving forces behind the founding of The 5% Club, which was established in 2013 to commit companies to maintain 5% of their workforce as either apprentices, graduate trainees or sponsored students. Starting out with just six supporting organisations, she has driven the campaign forward to where there are now over 200 companies from across Government and industry who have helped secure tens of thousands of positions to help transform the life-chances of young people.

Steve Wadey, Chief Executive Officer, QinetiQ, said: “Over the last four years, Sam has gone above and beyond to drive The 5% Club to be the success it is today. As a company and nation, ensuring that we have the right skills in place for future generations, is vital for future success. The 5% Club is a fantastic way of helping to achieve that and we are pleased that Sam’s work has been rewarded like this.
"Not only has Sam achieved so much through The 5% Club but as her official submission said, ‘She stands out as a role model both for female school students looking for careers in science or defence, and for people in the early stages of their defence careers’. Well done Sam.”
