BAE Systems' apprenticeship programme was awarded the Princess Royal Training Award yesterday, in recognition of its training and skills development scheme.

BAE Systems' apprenticeship programme was awarded the Princess Royal Training Award yesterday, in recognition of its training and skills development scheme.

BAE Systems' submission evidenced a curriculum that nurtures the talent pipeline required to meet the future workforce and skills capability of its business. The company demonstrated its strategic approach to achieving it UK Skills Strategy 2020 vision, which focuses on workforce skills planning, employability and through-career skills development.
 
Nigel Whitehead, Group Managing Director – Programmes & Support said: "It is fantastic that our apprenticeship training teams have been recognised by these new and prestigious awards. Their dedication to delivering the very highest standard of training is evident in the thousands of committed and highly skilled BAE Systems employees who began their careers as apprentices in the company."

The Award is given to only 34 UK businesses and recognises BAE Systems' achievement in apprenticeship learning. These awards are a new honour for employers who can demonstrate lasting impact by successfully linking skills development needs to business performance. The Award will be presented at St James’s Palace on 24 November.
 
City & Guilds Group Chief Executive, Chris Jones commented: “Excellence doesn’t happen by chance. In today’s uncertain economy, more than ever, employers must align investment in training to the objectives of their business. Whether they’ve addressed a skills gap, improved productivity or developed new leaders to grow their businesses, the awarded organisations deserve recognition.”
